Hello everyone, and welcome to this podcast episode! I'm Robin Choy, CEO of HireSweet (a Recruiting CRM that helps Talent Acquisition professionals hire more more candidates, faster). If you follow me on LinkedIn, you probably know I’m big on ChatGPT (and generative AI in general), especially regarding recruiting. Like 50% of you, I think that this technology will disrupt our industry (I talked about it with Hung Lee in a recent podcast episode).
That being said, I wanted to record a podcast episode about how to use ChatGPT concretely in recruiting. For this episode, I invited Mike Wolford, who recently wrote the book The AI Recruiter.
Here are the top 4 use cases where ChatGPT is helpful as a recruiter (that we discussed in this episode):
1/ Text generator
It’s the most obvious one. You tell ChatGPT what you want, for instance, a job description or a recruiting outreach, and it writes it for you. But be careful: you’ll need to be really good at prompting if you want a usable output. It will usually require a series of long and precise prompts. If you want to be good at prompting (a useful skill in the coming years), this website is your go-to: learnprompting.org.

2/ Writing Editor
If you're new to ChatGPT, I advise you to use it as a writing editor rather than as a text generator since it’s simpler. Give it your job description, and ask it to improve it with this link of prompts:
Here’s a job description below. What are the undifferentiated areas, like adjectives not backed with data that competitors could use?
Here's a job description - can you pinpoint which parts will likely be biased against a minority or underrepresented group?
Here's a job description. What questions would you ask about it if you were about to apply? What's missing?
3/ Text summarizer
This is a basic yet efficient use case: use ChatGPT to summarize your notes. You can especially summarize the notes from your candidates’ interviews. The prompt is quite basic: Can you summarize this candidate interview by highlighting the key takeaways? The notes of the meeting: **[insert notes]**"
4/ Role Player
Role-playing means telling ChatGPT to act as a specific person. Here are 2 roles you can ask ChatGPT to play as a recruiter: the copywriting expert and the candidate.
Copywriting expert: Asking ChatGPT to act as a copywriting expert often changes its responses in a more targeted and engaging way. A basic role-play useful for every ChatGPT user. Here’s the prompt: You’re a highly skilled copywriter with years of experience crafting compelling messaging. You understand the nuances of language and how to use it to convey emotion, build trust, and drive action. You always avoid fluffy, bs-wording, and you’re always straight to the point. Your ability to understand the needs of your target audience and communicate in a way that resonates with them is unparalleled. I need your help to improve my writing. I’ll post a text, and you’ll reply with a few recommendations on how to improve it, as well as your own version of that text. Can we start?
Candidate: A useful role-play to help you pinpoint missing elements in your job description. Here’s the prompt: You’re a candidate about to apply for a job, but you’re on the fence. The job description is below. What could be added to the job description to convince you? What’s missing?
